This photo is the second phase of pouring the footings. At this stage we have excavated the soil from under the footings at the rear foundation wall of my home and we have constructed 5 concrete pillers called "underpinning" which serve to support the foundation of my home. These underpinnings will later become part of the new poured concrete foundation wall that will form the east wall of the new basement. My engineer, Jim Jendusa (in the black clothes) is inspecting the underpinnings that were constructed acccording to his engineering specifications. Soon an opening into the old basement wall will be created directly in front of where Jim Jendusa is standing. There will be a series of 6 steps and a steel fire door inside the old basement leading down into the new basement.
